Why Can't I get more for my car?

This question is always asked. Just because you OWE $15,000 doesn't mean that is what your car is worth. Also, just because you saw an ad for a car just like yours for $15,999 doesn't mean a dealer or car buyer is going to give you $15,999. That is the RETAIL ASKING price. What will that car actually sell for? What is that car actually worth?

On the retail side, it is worth the most someone will pay for it.

On the wholesale side...it's the same thing, but they can't buy it for $15,999 and sell it for $15,999. There HAS to be profit involved. Sure the government may be able to buy retail and sell at wholesale, but car buyers can't.

Get multiple offers, that will show you what the current CASH value of your car is.

How do you get multiple cash offers? Well, I am glad you asked!

The Pros and Cons of ways to sell your car

So you have a car you want to sell. What are your options? Do you post it online? Donate it? Drive from dealer to dealer hoping to get a good cash offer? These are all ways to get cash for a car, but each has positives and negatives...let's go over them:

1. Post an ad on a free site like Craigslist or Kijiji.
PROS: It's free. You get to post pictures of the car.
CONS: There are 1000's of other cars being posted that same day. You get lost in the pile. Also, having a stranger come to your house, and going on a test drive with them...creepy! You have to spend money making sure nothing is wrong with the car.

2. Pay for an ad on Autotrader or Cars.com.
PROS: Lots of exposure.
CONS: Can be expensive to be noticed. You are competiting with car dealers. as well! You have to make the car look and run GREAT.

3. Post it for FREE on Cash For Cars
PROS: FREE, In most cities, you get multiple offers. In all cities you get multiple options of ways to sell your car. No need to do any cleaning or repairs!
CONS: You have to decide which cash offer to take. You don't get to have fun negotiating back and forth with strangers. You have to figure out how to spend the cash!

4. Donate it.
PROS: Feel good helping out a good cause. Get a tax deduction.
CONS: Come on, really? Helping people can never be a negative!

5. Your local Car Dealers
PROS: They may need a car like yours and pay top dollar...NOT!
CONS: You'd have to drive all over town to find a dealer willing to pay cash today!

Well, there you have it! Five ways to get rid of a vehicle!

Where do I get used car prices?

Below are the links to several websites that will give you the approximate value of your car. These sites DO NOT BUY cars, so you can't use them as a stone cold fact, but if will give you an idea of the value.

Edmunds: http://www.edmunds.com

My car doesn't run...now what?

If you are trying to sell your car, and it doesn't run, you can still get cash for it. It will really help, though, if you know what's wrong with it. If you are trying to sell a car and you just tell the buyer that it doesn't run and you don't know why, you could hurt yourself two ways. First, if it is something simple and the buyer sees how to fix it for like $100, he may offer you $1000 less than it's worth. Conversely, if he has no idea what is wrong, he is going to offer even less because he has to cover his potential loss if it is a HUGE repair. Either way, you are getting less than you should.

If the repair will cost you $250 at Sears, Midas or another local chain store, you can be sure that the buyer can get it done for about $150 tops at his own garage. Be willing to deduct the cost of the repair, as well as the "unknown" factor when negotiating. Sometimes, when a car sits for too long, it causes other repairs to be necessary, so it is helpful to know how long the car has been inoperable if possible, and to share this information with the buyer so you get a fair and honest appraisal of your vehicle.

What is your car REALLY worth?

If you are trying to put a value on your car, there are a few ways to get a ballpark idea, but there is one fact about values....the market decides. Yes, it's true. Your car is worth whatever someone will pay you for it.

There are sites like Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds or Black Book that will give you a pretty good idea of the value, but that doesn't mean that is the price you will get for it. If you want to get a real cash offer, there is really only one way to get market value; by getting MULTIPLE offers. If you drive over to your local car dealer and ask them to buy your car, what will you get for your car? What if you pulled up on a lot and they had FIVE used car managers all trying to buy your car? You would get five different values. (I think you would take the highest one, right?)

Well, by using our SELL A CAR site, you can get cash offers for that car. Just visit our site again, and fill out the CASH FOR CARS 60 SECOND SELL MY CAR form and your offers will be on the way.
